Red Star FC’s attacking midfielder Mehdi Chahiri has joined Racing on a four-and-a-half year deal, with the player returning to the Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine club on loan until the end of the season.

Mehdi Chahiri (5 ft 10 in, 77 kg) is now a Racing player. The right-footed 23-year-old, who was born on 25th July 1996 in the town of Grande-Synthe in the Hauts-de-France region, has signed a contract tying him to the club until June 2024.

Before joining up with his new teammates, however, Mehdi will finish the season with Red Star, who are currently fighting for promotion to Ligue 2. The attacking midfielder played for Olympique Grande-Synthe up until the age of 15 before moving to FC Lorient’s reserves. After another spell at Grande-Synthe, he joined National side USL Dunkerque in 2016.

Three seasons later, in 2019, Chahiri signed for Red Star where, this season, he has been a promising and key element, having scored 13 goals in 19 games in all competitions so far.

MEHDI CHAHIRI’S REACTION

This is a childhood dream come true,” Mehdi revealed. “Playing at the highest level is every footballer’s wish. With this move, I’m skipping two years in one go. I’ve already been to La Meinau when the club was in National, to cheer on my friend Denis Bouanga, who was my teammate in the youth team at Lorient. I’m coming here to learn, to grow, to play. I’m excited about this stadium’s atmosphere. In the meantime, I’m going to do all that I can to help Red Star get promoted to Ligue 2. That would be amazing before I come to Strasbourg…”.
